Industry Placement
Industry Placement is the key component of the Certificate I in Work Education and Certificate II in Workplace Practices courses, as it enables students to acquire employability skills and knowledge in an industry setting. The students attend the workplace during the normal hours of operation and work along side the other employees. Students are able to gain a wealth of knowledge in a variety of fields which assists them in making informed career choices. Contact with employers can also lead to part time employment and future job prospects, including Traineeships and Apprenticeships.
School Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships
School Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships provide a pathway for students who have already made a career choice, or who have developed an interest in a particular industry. These students will have a head start in their working life and the advantage of a smooth transition to the next stage their education, training and employment.
All Mt Maria Students can apply for a school-based traineeship or apprenticeship. Vacancies are advertised in the Mt Maria newsletter as well as on Mt Maria College Intranet. Students can complete or partially complete their school-based traineeships whilst still at school and their qualifications are nationally recognised. Completed certificates contribute points towards a student’s Queensland Certificate of Education.
Mt Maria College students have been successful in winning prestigious VET prizes including the Australian VET student Prize and the Defence Technical Scholarships.
Students who demonstrate a commitment to the Mt Maria Vocational Education program will graduate with a head start in their working life, and can look forward to a smooth transition to the next stage of their education, training and employment.
