Senior Pathways
Mt Maria College’s vision for the curriculum is to be one that responds to student needs, societal and education demands as well as the distinctive mission and Marist ethos of this College.
Subjects are divided into Key Learning Areas (KLAs) and there is the expectation that students will fulfil the minimum requirements in each area. Some subjects are compulsory, whilst others are offered as electives.
The College offers Enrichment Studies for students. Students may be extended or accelerated in areas of strength. The College is committed to promoting Enrichment Studies for gifted and talented students. This may take the form of specialised classes or acceleration in a particular subject.
Students with special needs or those who experience significant difficulty with components of the curriculum, may access alternative subjects. These subjects are offered on an ‘as needs’ basis and a student’s enrolment in these units can only take place after consultation with the Learning Support Coordinator.
Key Learning Areas (KLAs)
KLAs are a way of grouping subjects that have compatible or similar learning outcomes despite differences in content. This reflects an educational focus on processes and skills and not just on content. Each KLA varies in the amount of time a student needs to study in that area.
The Key Learning Areas at Mt Maria College are:
- Religious Education
- English
- Mathematics
- The Social Sciences
- Science
- Health and Physical Education
- Business and Information Technology
- Visual Art
- Performing Arts
- Technology
- Vocational Education and Training
